Join the Southern Foodways Alliance in Charleston, South Carolina, for the premiere of Baking Girl Dreams, a film by SFA Pihakis Foodways Documentary Filmmaker Zaire Love. Baking Girl Dreams celebrates Caitlin Schumacher, who in 2021 was named SFA’s inaugural Karen Barker Baker. The award honors the memory of Karen Barker, who owned and operated Magnolia Grill in Durham, NC, with her husband, Ben Barker.
Schumacher owns and operates the Charleston-based pastry business Girl Nextdough. She trained under Barker at Magnolia Grill and previously directed the pastry program at FIG.
Beginning at 5 p.m., Schumacher will serve complimentary bites. Baking Girl Dreams will screen inside the Terrace Theater at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public with prior registration.
